About us

Tony Knowles and Edward Waller set up the business in 2001 using a barn at Edward’s family farm as a workshop. We now have 2 shops, one in Kendal and one in Penrith and a large workshop in Holme.

Edward is the principle architectural mason and trained for 3 years at York College achieving a distinction in masonry. He worked on York Minster and achieved the college award for outstanding craftsmanship in his second year. Over the years Edward has created many specialist projects such as war memorials, church renovations, bespoke stone carvings and mullion windows.

Tony started working for a local stonemasonry firm aged 19 where he developed his skills and experience before starting up Able Memorials with Edward.

Whilst many of the skills remain the same using air tools, mallet and chisel to complete masonry work, the business has also moved forward and we now offer many new services such as etchings, photo plaques and sandblastings.

We offer all types of memorials and also provide a renovation service should you require a memorial repainting, cleaning or stabilising.
